Illegal aliens taking our freedom

July 16th, 2007, 3:07 pm · 13 Comments · posted by Joaquin

Chisme was walking around the other day, feeling, I don’t know, sort of weak. It’s like when you know you’re coming down with something, pero in this case, I didn’t feel any body aches or sniffles like when you know a really bad gripa is coming.

No, somehow, it’s hard to explain, but Chisme felt less free than usual. Then I read a letter-to-the-editor in last Friday’s USA Today, and the diagnosis was right there in front of me. A guy named Bruce Gary wrote in from Rhinelander, Wis., about how la migra, or the homeland office, or whatever they’re calling it since 9/11, should deport an illegal immigrant woman and her baby who have taken sanctuary at a Episcopal church in southern California.

Bruce from a town named after Germans wants the feds to raid the church and send this woman, Liliana, on the next bus, plane, or subway south, or if necessary, heck, let `em walk.

“Her case highlights one of the primary reasons many Americans don’t want immigrants to come to the USA,” writes Bruce, who lives in a town named after Germans. “They ignore our laws. They enjoy freedom they never earned. It’s all about the taking.”

Right on, Bruce, the guy who lives in an American town named after Germans.

Then, as usual, Chisme got confused, which happens often given the limited intelligence at hand. Right in the same issue of USA Hoy, there’s an article about Wilfredo Montes, a 54-year-old immigrant from Nicaragua, (what they couldn’t find a Mexican?). Wilfredo left his country about 10 years ago to find work to support his family, going first to Costa Rica, and then to Dallas, (oh yea, did I forget to say he’s one of dem illegal aliens?).

Montes has lived in New Orleans the last two years, working with many other immigrant workers to help rebuild that city after Katrina hit. Wilfredo has done his share in rebuilding homes devastated by the floodwaters of Katrina. Remember after that storm when the New Orleans mayor, Ray Nagin, ese pelon, complained that his town was being `overrun’ by Mexicans?

In the USA Hoy article, a worker named Cameron Taylor, says he, too, once resented all of the immigrant workers, but his resentment lessened when he saw how hard they worked.

“New Orleans has a long way to go,” Taylor said. The city wouldn’t been where it is today, he said, “if it wasn’t for the (Hispanic day laborers). They should be allowed to stay.”

Whoa, pardner, don’t go mushy on us.

The article goes on to detail what Montes, the freedom-taking immigrant, is up to these days. He sleeps in a partioned corner of a Lutheran church, where a dozen other migrant workers live for free, (see what Bruce of Germantown, Wis., is talking about?) In return, Montes and the others have to attend Bible classes, English classes and Sunday services if they’re not working on that day.

Montes gets up before dawn, showers and dresses, and makes sure the place is clean and in order before leaving in search of work. He walks two miles to a site near a Home Depot, where he hopes contractors will come by and hire him to do work, any decent work that will pay. Montes feels bad when he can’t find work, and doesn’t complain about the hardships he faces.

“We knew when we came to the United States, we were going to suffer like this. This is life,” he said.

Ni modo, Wilfredo, you’re just another illegal alien who came here, worked to rebuild a city devastated by a hurricane, and now the gueritos want you to book. The harder you work here, Wilfredo, the less free Bruce in Wisconsin and Chisme in South Texas are because there’s only so much freedom to go around. It’s like water. Too many people drink from it, and pretty soon, there’s no more.

Chisme got a kick that one of the Louisiana politicians who has been most vocal about bashing the illegals, questioning their morality and character, is no other than U.S. Sen. David Vitter, Mr. Family Values, a mero-mero Republican, who recently admitted he has contacted ladies who charge money for certain services. Chisme is no Billy Graham, trust me, pero these Republicans who defend marriage como perros, need to do better than this. I mean, por favor, at least stick to having gambling problems like that GOP gordito of moral virtues, Bill Bennett, who has also bashed immigrants.

Yes, a poor soul like Wilfredo Montes is taking our freedoms by hanging out at Home Depots and looking for work. Pero, at least, he’s not blowing his hard-earned American greenbacks on prostitutes and gambling in Vegas. Chisme might be wrong, and if he is, I’m sure Bruce from the Wisconsin town named after Germans will straighten him out.

Chisme needs to cough up the $9k-11k per year per child that Americans pay to educate Mexican (and other illegal alien) children. I am sticking with Mexican/South American because Chisme forgets the English words in English forums sometimes.
Chisme needs to cough up the medical fees for all the emergency room visits for sniffles that go unpaid, forcing hospitals to eventually close down.
Chisme needs to cough up the money to pay for the extra police officers needed in all the towns that are over-ran by Mexican nationals.
Chisme needs to cough up the money to pay the hospital bills of all the Americans that have been hit by drunk driving Mexicans without insurance. Or just cough up the money for all the Americans hit by uninsured Mexicans sober or not.
Chisme needs to figure out that just because someone lives in a city named after a German doesn’t make them illegal. The issue was the impact of illegal aliens, not what someone named a town 200 years ago. Heck go find the founder of the town and draw Spanish graffiti on his tombstone, that at least would make more sense than insinuating someone is a Nazi because they live in a town.
Chisme needs to get a second or third job to support his beliefs, plus move in 30 or 40 illegals into his own home.
Lilathe says, “Put your money where your mouth is. Put up or shut up.” Chisme, if you can’t afford to support these illegals what in the heck makes you think that my kids and I can afford to?

  2. yup Says:

OK, so he lives in a town named after Germans. I got that in the first few lines of this article when you mentioned it , oh, i don’t know, three tiimes at least! Are you implying they are Nazis? If you are, then, you my friend, need another angle. Not going to work. I am glad that the people you do find, the ones that come here and work and make an honest to God effort at a better life exist. But the others, the ones who just drain and drain, like leeches, yeah, those need to get out of here. I know and understand that this country was founded by immigrants. But you see, back then it was not illegal. Back then it was not breaking a law to come here without asking permission. Now, it is. I also understand that there are so many Americans out there who are lazy and just refuse to be grateful for what is given to them just for being born here. I understand that there are Americans out there that feel that the governement is responsible for feeding their children and giving them medical aid. There is the issue of medical insurance for everyone, an entirely different subject altogether. But does no one think it would make them lazier? There are people in my husband’s family who are from mexico, who came here the right way, with permission, who worked their butts off to gain citizenship. They never in their life asked for governement help. Everything they own, they bought with their hard earned money. Those are the kind of people who are needed here. I admit that even we Americans can learn from their ethics. But those who reufse to better themselves, to make a life, those who come here just for the help, you need to get back on that trail and find somewhere else to make camp.

I don’t know, but maybe you are missing the point here…. I don’t think he is insinuating that Bruce is a Nazi. Maybe, don’t you think that he is putting extra emphasis by saying, “Bruce from a town named after Germans” he is some how expressing that maybe, just maybe, I don’t know, …… he is making a point that the town was named after Germans, who live in the U.S. that maybe the town was named after Germans 200 yrs ago were maybe, I don’t know,…… maybe… they were……… IMMIGRANTS!!!! From Germany? It is ironic that a guy so vocal about being against IMMIGRANTS lives in a town named after them. Maybe he should have spelled it out for you and said “Bruce, who lives in a town named after Germans, who hates immigrants so much he lives in a town named after German Immigrants” If Bruce is so against immigration, then why does he live in a town names for them? Regardless if they were from Germany, England, France, Italy, India, the orient, Africa, they are all Immigrants if they live here in the U.S. Bruce just happens to live in a town named after German immigrants. Heck technically, everyone that lives here is an immigrant. (with the exeption of Native Americans) So Bruce, unless you are full blooded Native American (not 1/16789451), I hate to break it to you Bruce, who lives in a town named after Germans, but you too are an immigrant. Was this country, not founded by people searching for a better life? By immigrants? Do we need immigration reform? Yes. But, with statements like “Mexican go home” I, as a Mexican-American feel that it is more about hate, that actual reform.

  4. Mexican American Says:

I think (we) all forget that (we) are all IMMIGRANTS and some legal immigrants have forgotten where their ancestors came from. My ancestors migrated from Spain. I have taught for more than 20 years, all ethnicities and more than 3000 students. When they leave me, they know more about their ancestors than most legal do. My hopes are that they do not grow up to be prejudice. If one lives in the USA, we all pay taxes. Look around at who works on road construction, Hispanics is the majority while others collect welfare and drive a Cadi. Who cuts your yard or cleans your house?

  5. whatever Says:

i don’t really care about who cuts the yard and cleans the house. if you are so darn lazy that you have to hire someone to that for you then you do not derserve your luxuries. yeah, yeah, yeah, i know, you are busy. too busy to take care of what you have and to take pride in what you have. i take care of my home and yard. and by the way, yes, we all came from immigrants, but i choose not to pass on the ignorance that comes with minority culture. velas? te de hierbauena, and all of the jesus’ in the tortillas. no way. the beauty of the culture, the pride, i will pass on. but not the silliness.

  6. zorro Says:

Why comment if my math won’t add up. you sorry!@#$%^&*

  7. Guera Says:

    1. 12 million plus and their families are poor
    2. The majority of them are illiterate, unskilled, uneducated
    3. They are low-wage earners
    4. If rewarded with amnesty they will immediately qualify for:
welfare, food stamps, school tuitions, housing subsidies and free medical. They are low-wage earners under the poverty line.
Guess who is going to be paying to support them? . Right. YOU. You and the rest of hardworking American taxpayers will pay higher taxes in order tor the States to pay for all of these things that you can’t even provide for your families. Cameron county has the lowest wages in the Nation. Why??? Look at the majority of the population and note the educational background of the majority of the population. It’s better when they come here legally because they have to show proof that they have a profession or skill or trade and can earn enough to support their own family without government (taxpayers) assistance.

  8. Guera Says:

The argument continues about how this country was built by immigrants but people don’t like to admit that it was LEGAL immigrants who came here. They did not sneak across the border. The legal immigrants were unhappy in their country and wanted a better life. They worked hard to learn the English language and there were many who did not want handouts at all, no matter what. They were willing to work hard for what they wanted. They saved their hard-earned monies to send their children to college and each generation did better than the one before them. They were grateful for what America did for them and they appreciated the new life they built in America. They became even better Americans than some who were born here. WHATEVER says we are all immigrants. That is not so. I was born an American and my g-g-g-g-g grandparents came to America in 1746. Since then the following generations were born in America.

  9. Proud American Says:

Guera, you are correct that most of the immigrants coming to this country are illiterate, unskilled, uneducated and are low-wage earners. But do you expect a literate, well-educated, highly skilled worker to do these jobs. I would venture to say no. And you are probably correct in saying that they will immediately qualify for welfare, food stamps, and housing subsidies but that is a discussion for welfare reform, this issue is about immigration reform. If that is your biggest concern push for welfare reform, which we need to do anyways. I’m sorry, but I have for far too long seen the lazy take advantage of welfare. Immigrants at least show the interest in working and not just collect an unemployment check. Besides most Illegal immigrants don’t file for welfare because they are afraid of deportation. Your argument that if they were here legally is actually misguided, because if they are legal the possibility of the filing for welfare. Lets get back to the topic, immigration reform. The argument is that this country was founded on immigration, Legal or Illegal. Those being relatively new terms. Oh and by the way, English migrated here as well. Another thing “handout” how many Illegal do you see on street corners asking for handouts. I challenge you to find one illegal alien here in Dallas on a street corner. When have you ever seen a lazy Illegal? You don’t cause the ones that are truly lazy are still in their native countries. Like I said in my previous post, yes we need immigration reform, but I feel that the lines of this argument have been drawn on race and hate. Just to rebuttal you, we all are immigrants here, (unless we come from indigenous people, which not many of us do) migrated here. You said it yourself; your g-g-g-g-g grandparents CAME (another word for migrated) here in 1746, and helped found this country (thank you by the way) but where were they in 1745? I just want to touch on one more thing. Hardworking Americans?? Really? That is an oxymoron if ever there was one. The reason we are in this predicament is because Americans look for the easiest and cheapest ways to get things done so we hire illegal to do the grunt work. Honestly, how many Americans do hard labor, like pick fruit or build houses? Who is rebuilding New Orleans, Migrant workers that’s who!! The majority of this country is White Collar. Not to say that there are no hard working blue collars but they are the minority. Look deep inside yourself and honestly answer, would you want your kids to clean toilets or pick fruit, I would stretch to say no. But someone has to do it right?

  10. Guera Says:

Proud American, you forget that Americans have a much higher overhead to take care of than illegals do. We have to make enough to pay mortgages, school tuitions, clothing, books, vehicle insurance, vehicle registrations, health insurance, etc. Illegals get paid cash..no taxes taken out, they live in groups and they eat their rice, beans, tortillas which are much cheaper to buy and they go to emergency rooms to be seen by doctors and don’t pay. Or if they have children here the children are qualified for welfare, food stamps, WIC, etc and the whole family benefits from that. And YOU and the rest of the hardworking Americans are paying for it when they can’t afford to send their children to college or have full coverage on health insurance. Migrant workers are working in Louisianna because they are working for less and mostly in cash. America didn’t prosper as it has in the last few centuries if it wasn’t for LEGAL immigrants or Americans and in the 40’s there were plenty of white farm laborers along with Japanese and others.

  11. Rock Says:

If you think illegal immigrants are going to burden American handworkers with welfare, food stamps, school tuitions, housing subsidies and free medical, your dead wrong, these individuals will also pay their taxes, work for living, which by the way many AMERICANS abuse. If you listen to the immigration debate, illegal immigrants are willing to pay $5000 dlls to receive legal status, that means that if 12 million of them get legalize America will receive 60 billion dlls to guess what?, protect our borders, it would be 12 million more tax payers, some of them are become in time entrepreneurs, which they have in many times demonstrated, that means more jobs, more sales tax payers, more revenues. It is just dumb to think all illegal aliens come here to drink and drive which becomes in more needed police officer, you need to get your facts straight and not just write things as they come out of your tiny brain. The fact of the matter is that if you write those things you are afraid, afraid of competition which has made our country the best one, afraid that someone will come here and push you to think straight and to lay down your chips, get up from your couch and work.

  12. Que Onda Says:

Lets take over CUBA! Cubans are getting here by the boat load! I still don’t understand why and they get residency within a year!

But anyway, illegals are here for a better life. What some people don’t realize is that in Mexico for example people work from 12 hour shifts 15 straight days for five or eight hundred pesos so when they hear in the Bargain Book for example, that they can receive one thousand pesos in five days for taking care of your kids plus making dinner, plus
cleaning your house and on top of that washing your dirty chones, they jump on the oppurtunity in a snap.

All this while the person paying them is receiving Lone Star,TanF and whatever other goverment help they can find.

    On a personal note:

I started my work carreer as a grocery dispatcher, you know, paper of plastic.

Spent some time in the Music Industry: selling music as a sales clerk.

Now together with my wife we are making over $175,000 a year. With my wife making a little over half of that. Let’s give credit to her genius mind in marrying me.

    hasta luego.
