Look out America, the Bush administration is gearing up to take a bite out of industries dependent on immigration workers. With America’s national security and its cultural purity at stake, the administration is moving forward to protect the talk show nation and Republican culture warriors from all of those menacing farm workers, landscape workers, hotel cleaning ladies, and drywallers.
Thank goodness, too, because it could hardly come soon enough, what with all of that blue collar work getting done at America’s benefit. The administration says it’s getting down to bidness in building that border fence that the talk show yakkers are convinced will stop all dem Mexicans in their tracks. That’s not all. The Department of Homeland Security, with offices worldwide, including one in Harlingen by the way, will hereby require employers to fire workers who can’t clear up problems with their Social Security numbers within 90 days. Si no, homeland security will fine employers and they could face criminal penalties.
The agriculture business people and construction biz are worried about the new measures. An Associated Press story that moved Friday, Aug. 10, said, “Business operators with large numbers of immigrant employees are wondering how to bring their workforce into compliance without interrupting production.”
Hey, don’t worry dudes. Bill O’Reilly, Lou Dobbs, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity are going to leave their cush broadcast chairs to do the necessary blue collar work they’re always bashing immigrants for doing. And if not them, the folks who work for the immigration restrictionist groups like FAIR, Numbers USA, etc., will leave their air conditioned D.C. offices to pick crops and clean hotel rooms. And just in case O’Reilly, Dobbs, Limbaugh, Hannity and the rightie groups don’t report for work, hey, Chisme is sure all of those American kids who love their X boxes will drop their video game controllers and troop over to construction sites to work under the hot sun.
“They’re worried about terrorists,” said Manuel Cunha, a citrus grower who heads a farming group in California, in an AP story. “But I’ve never heard of a farm worker walking across the Arizona desert with a nuke strapped across his back.”
That’s true, Manuel, but they do speak Spanish and will corrupt our American culture, so even without nukes, those people are a threat to the USA.
Anyway, Chisme’s position is clear. Deport the immigrants. Put Americans back to work in the fields, under the hot sun, just like the good old days.
