As an American born with Mexican Heritage. I have pride in that. Second geneartion American father and brothers have fought for this country in seperate wars. I have lived in the north most of my life. I'm just telling you all this because i have a pretty good view of this country. the man in ofiice is not the right answer to this country. He is the answer for the media and hollywood. They love him because he is accessable to them easily. The person who should have been their was set aside because he was a conformist. Bill Richardson has a proven track record but not for those people who wish to manipulate our president. Believe me siding with the black community is not a good idea for us. In Chicago they use the so called leaders of latin peoples. They promise them that they will back them when it comes time if they only vote for their ideas. This is fine until a situation comes up that we need their vote. Then it's sorry, we feel a black person should be in this position. Republican Democrat screw all that America. Thats all that matters! We better learn to live as one or face a future we don't want for our children. I'm willing to give Obama a chance. Maybe i'm wrong. Convince me make bow to you. Thank you all for letting me Vent.

It's hard to say who's more paranoid and angry: A right-wing Republican or a left-wing liberal. I read The Herald about everyday and I've seen letters and columns praising and criticizing both candidates. I don't see this supposed 5-to-1 preference for Obama over McCain in regular news pages. In fact, I haven't seen all that many national political stories in the front section of the paper since most of the stories seem to be local or Valley news.
As Sarah P would say, bless your heart, Jose. You're so angry and engaged in this election, looks like you're having trouble seeing straight. After the election, take a deep breath, relax.

Steve, I clearly understand that this is the Opinion page, and if I were editor, it would be slanted for McCain. I do have a problem with the Herald putting letters in from some goof in California as I think Brownsville/RGV people should have a voice in the letters to the editor section. That's just my opinion. I don't expect to see the bias toward Obama in the "news" portion of the paper, but it is clearly there. The pro-Obama articles in the main body of the paper have been 5-1 for Obama. If there is a pro-McCain article it is stuck away in the back or is of maginal value. The power of placement and omission is at work here, and the editors of the Herald have mastered it. I think it should be fair and balanced toward both candidates.

You need to read the local paper a little more carefully and often, Jose dear. Today's paper, Monday, has a letter to editor that says: ``Obama is a socialist.'' And Sunday's paper has a very long letter from a reader that says ``Obama falls short against McCain.'' In fact, there are three pro-McCain letters and two pro-Obama letters over last two days
Then there's a column from Charles Krauthammer with the headline, McCain for president.
Guess The Herald is in the tank for McCain!

This Blog is commentary, Mr. Cavazos, and I understand that. Unfortunately, due to your bias, you fail to keep that bias out of the news side of the paper. Most of the mainstream press in this country is in the tank for Obama this season, and the Herald is no exception. On the commentary side, the anti-Bush, pro-Obama letter to the editor and articles on the opinion page are 5 to 1 pro Obama. To get enough anti-Bush, pro-Obama material for your letters to the editor, you have had to print letters from as far away as California. Is there not enough Bush haters in the Brownsville area to fill your quota of Bush bashing?
On the news side of the paper, you have had almost nothing negative to say about Obama/Biden, yet everytime Palin breaks a nail, you have a story about how she could have prevented breaking that nail if she had a better education, or had any experience at all.
One great glaring example of your bias is the current bashing that McCain is taking in the polls for hispanic voters. There WAS NO BODY more pro-immigrant, pro-mexican immigrant than John McCain. Have you run any story about McCain's good work on hispanic immigration issues? NO you have not. What would you have done if it were Obama that was pro mexican immigrant...it would have been on the front page every week! You are a master of omission.
By the way, speaking of the narrow appeal of the Republican Party...I am not suprised to hear that Colin Powell, a guy who has never met a payroll in his life, is pro-abortion/pro partial birth abortion, and is anti gun doesn't like the Republican Party. I don't like his narrow appeal. It is a sad when folks that believe that government needs to be small, and unobtrusive, our borders need to be secure, that we need to kill those who are trying to kill us, that we need to protect the old and unborn, and follow the Constitution of the United States are narrow in their appeal. So be it.

This is commentary, Jose, not reporting. You know, opinion writing, just like what you stated.
It would appear Mr. Jose that you got your Texas Hispanic support for Obama & McCain wrong. A Rasmussen story dated Oct. 23, 2008 reports Obama is leading McCain in Texas among Hispanics by 54% to 42%. That's stil much better than McCain is doing among Hispanics elsewhere in the U.S. in all likelihood.
I'm not a Kool-drinking Dem, bub. I voted for George W for guv in 1998 and have voted for Kay Bailey multiple times, along with Repubs for statewide court spots.
I'm not advocating Hispanics vote lockstep for anyone. With the way the Republicans are going these days, and continuing to narrow the appeal of their party, (as cited by Colin Powell), it's a party that needs all of the help it can get.

Cavazos, I know a Kool-aid drinking Democrat like yourself would never admit this, but the latest Rasmussen poll shows Barack Obama leading John McCain by 54 percent to 42 percent among Hispanic voters in Texas. These figures don't take into account the Bradley effect that will no doubt occur by the thousands here in Texas. It isn't only white boys who won't flip the Black switch ! So it doesn't seem like the nonsense you are spouting in this blog is rooted in reality. Wishful thinking from an unbiased professional in the news business, no doubt. I understand that you and Rene Oliveira don't want to accept these numbers, it's hard to accept in your new world that Hispanics are not blindly in lockstep with the Democrats any more.
Hispanics are getting educated, getting good jobs and are paying taxes.Man what a difference it makes when you start pulling the wagon, instead of riding. Hispanics can no longer be easily divided by your class warfare techniques. It's a thrill to see a young hispanic get his/her first paycheck. First thing they want to know is...where is all my money? I tell them the same thing every time...you are pulling the wagon now...vote Republican in the next election.

By the way...whatever happened to unbiased reporting?
